NIPSIA is very proud that Prof. Mo Jamshidi, the Lutcher Brown Endowed Chaired Professor at the University of Texas, accepted its invitation and presented a lecture at the USPTO on "Systems of systems Engineering – Innovations and Challenges for the 21st Century" for the USPTO patent examiners.

Abstract of the talk

The advent of wireless communication and the invention of the Internet have now connected machines and people all over the world. The technology behind this is called systems of systems (SoS) or cyber-physical systems. This technology, which is at its infancy, has offered great challenges to all fields of science, engineering, public policy, business, law, etc. Among all engineering field, no one feels greater pressure than systems engineering. This lecture will give a broad overview of SoS and its potential applications in defense, energy, health care, transportation, environment, space exploration, service, etc. Many domains of sub-engineering challenges are discussed and progress at the global level is reported.
